Requirements for iWise
An average iWise record, including audit information and other typical fields (data fields and text), is approximately 4k. So each 1GB of hard drive space would allow for approximately 262,000 records.
This page describes the recommended minimum hardware and software needed to support infraWise's iWise product. The main components are the Database, Transaction Server, XML Server, Web Application Server, and Client. For a diagram of the iWise Architecture, click here.
Hardware Requirements for the iWise Transaction Server
The minimum and recommended hardware for the iWise Transaction Server, based on processing up to 500 concurrent users/transactions, is:

Two Core 2 Duo 2.4 GHz processors or higher with 4 GB RAM
Recommended: Multiple Quad-core processors with 8GB+ RAM -
50+ gigabytes hard drive space, SATA 7.2k RPM, 16MB cache
Recommended: RAID, 32 MB cache -
LAN 100Mbps hardware connectivity
Recommended: Multiple managed LAN cards at 1000Mbps - Recommended: Servers with dual NICs, power supplies, RAID for fault tolerance
Software Requirements for the iWise Transaction Server
An iWise Transaction Server requires the following software:
- Windows 2003 Server or 2008 Server
- Object Rexx v3.2 or higher
- An ODBC connection to a SQL-compliant database. Please refer to Database Requirements for iWise below for more information.
Hardware Requirements for iWise Clients
The minimum required hardware for iWise clients is:
- Core 2 Duo 2.6Ghz or equivalent CPU with 512+ MB RAM
- LAN 100Mbps hardware connectivity
- SVGA or better display resolution
Software Requirements for iWise Clients
One of the following operating systems is required for the iWise Windows client:
- Windows XP with Service Pack 3
- Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4
- Windows Vista with Service Pack 1
Software Requirements for iWise Web Clients
- Web Browser – Microsoft Internet Explorer version 6.0 or greater, Netscape version 7.02 or greater, or Mozilla Firefox version 1.0 or greater, with JavaScript and cookies enabled
- Email client for notifications and process functions
Hardware Requirements for the iWise XML Server
Please refer to Hardware Requirements for the iWise Transaction Server above. The iWise XML Server can run on the same physical server as the iWise Transaction Server for smaller customer environments.
Software Requirements for the iWise XML Server
Windows 2000, 2003, or 2008 Server.
Hardware Requirements for the iWise Web Application Server
Please refer to Hardware Requirements for the iWise Transaction Server above. You can also refer to the recommended requirements of the specific Java application server (for example, Tomcat or Websphere) that you are using, and use whichever set of requirements is higher. The iWise Web Server can run on the same physical server as the iWise Transaction Server for smaller customer environments.
Software Requirements for the iWise Web Application Server
A Windows iWise Web Application Server requires the following software:
- Windows 2000, 2003, or 2008 Server
- Apache Tomcat v5.0.28 or higher, or a similar Web application that is capable of processing Java Server Pages (JSP)
- Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition, Version 1.6.0_10 or later
Requirements for iWise Help
- Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.0 or greater, Netscape version 6.0 or greater, or Mozilla Firefox version 1.0 or greater for the end-user documentation in HTML format. All are available through their manufacturers’ websites.
- Adobe Acrobat Reader for the administrator documents in PDF format. If you do not have this program, check www.adobe.com.
- Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.4.2 or higher.
Requirements for iWise Reports
iWise is delivered with a set of reports designed to function under Business Objects’ (formerly Seagate and Crystal Decisions) Crystal Reports®. You may choose to modify the reports or use them as-is. You can use any relational reporting tool to interface with iWise and create your own reports; however, to modify or view the reports provided with iWise, you need Crystal Reports Version 8 or higher. infraWise can provide additional reports or convert existing reports to Crystal Reports. In addition to Crystal Reports, reporting can be done through SQL Server Reporting Services, SAS, and other ODBC-compliant tools.
Database Requirements for iWise
Hardware Requirements for the iWise Database Server
The minimum and recommended hardware for the iWise Database Server is:

Recommended: Higher speed or two Core 2 Quad-Core processors with 2GB+ RAM -
50 gigabytes hard drive space, NTFS formatted, 7200RPM, 8MB cache
Recommended: RAID, Serial ATA, 16 MB cache, higher capacity drives for larger databases. - LAN 1000Mbps hardware connectivity
You can also refer to the recommended requirements of the specific database (for example, Oracle or SQL Server) that you are using, and use whichever set of requirements is higher. The iWise Database can run on the same physical server as the iWise Transaction Server for smaller customer environments.
Software Requirements for the iWise Database Server
The following database software is compatible with iWise:
- Oracle Version 9 or higher
- Microsoft SQL Server 2000 or higher
- DB2 Universal Database Version 7 or higher
NOTE: All database versions specified above are Windows editions, assuming that you are installing the database on the same machine as the iWise Transaction Server. If the database is installed on a different machine with a different operating system, select the database version designed for that operating system.
