iWise Request Management Overview

It is extremely difficult to describe a piece of music in words rather than sounds. In the same way, iWise software is a "see" rather than a "what." But we will do our best to describe it in both words and images. Below is a summary of iWise Request Management.

Request Update

The iWise Request Management application aids in the effective recording, planning, approval, tracking, and implementation of data processing and network distributed requests for service. Request Management, with companion iWise products, provides a simple, easy-to-use methodology to ensure requests are processed within established time frames.

Although a major role of Request Management is to streamline the request process, it is also a valuable tool for your system's security, audit, and resource planning departments.

Request Management automates and separates - by responsible area - the administrative tasks necessary for successful request management. It accomplishes this by providing task-oriented data entry, coordinator-controlled data collection, and automated processing.

The key features, functions, benefits and objectives of iWise Request Management include:

iWise Request Management provides an efficient, streamlined, and flexible request management application that grows in capability if other service management processes are controlled using the iWise product family. By entering requests, you begin to build a knowledge base - including such statistics as average request completion time for a system or request type. Once built, this knowledge base can be used to predict completion dates, the success of initial implementation schedules, and other functions.

This application is designed for a wide range of users, with various levels of data processing expertise. Requests can be made to change a variety of system or application areas, ranging from complex data and voice circuit alterations to simple requests for material.

Requests reside in an Enterprise Information Base (EIB). The organization need not be aware of the format or processing of this EIB, but you must be aware of how to enter a request, and the type of data that should be entered if Request Management is to be effective. There are several pages or panels involved in direct entry of a request; however, many functions can simplify or accelerate this process, including using iWise shortcuts or copying an existing request, model request, or a request project.

Sample request types available in Request Management are listed below.

Request Type Description
Absence Allows you to identify a scheduled absence for personnel. The iWise product family uses these objects for alternate electronic notification and alert processing; for example, product coverage for Incident and/or Change Management.
Account Access (Product) Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of account number access (use) by a product such as iWise.
Account Access (User) Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of account number access (use) by an individual or a department; for example, job access, logon account number use, dial communication codes, etc.
Application Modification Allows you to request a change to an application.
Audit Allows you to request an audit of a system, application, product, or related information such as a configuration item (CI). You can also use this request type to manage quality reviews, inspections, or major outages.
Authority Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletetion of access to a system, application, transaction, etc.
Build Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of product build or distribution identifiers. Identifiers can be defined for many items, including:
  • Service tapes
  • Distributed PC software
  • Document circulation
Circuit Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of the following for circuit (link) generations:
  • Nailed Data Circuit, Dial-Up Data Circuit
  • Voice Circuit, Location Attachments
  • User-Defined Products
Device Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of device definitions for any type of device, for example:
  • Storage Devices
  • Terminals
  • Controllers
  • Servers
  • Printers
  • Personal Computers
Distribution Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of a job, report, or other product distribution rules; for example, address changes, number of copies, new reports, etc.
Education Allows you to define and manage an education project, including multiple activities. You can relate specific request types to projects. You can also use project modeling to automatically create multiple request types and activities.
Enhancement Allows you to request an enhancement to a product or application.
Hardware Generation Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of the following for hardware generations:
  • Storage Devices
  • Printers, Channels
  • Other Local (System CPU) Attachments
  • Controllers
Link Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of logical or physical links between locations or devices.
Logon ID Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of a system or application logon identifier.
Move (Member or Source) Allows you to request relocation of a member from one dataset to another, such as test to production. This includes libraries, modules, MFS members, procedures, macros, prose members, etc.
Product Allows you to request the addition of a new product or the deletion of an existing one. The result of this request may be a project or series of requests managed using Request Management.
Product Identifier Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of a system, product, or application identifier; for example, application CICS, system Orion, or product IBM ThinkPad A21M. You can also use this request type for transaction name alterations, region names, etc.
Product Modification Allows you to request a change to a product; for example, IMS PSBs, dataset names, enhancements, device functions, etc.
Project Allows you to define and manage a major project, including multiple activities and products. You can relate specific request types to projects. You can also use project modeling to automatically create multiple request types and activities.
Sales Call Allows you to define and manage a sales project, including multiple activities. You can relate specific request types to projects. You can also use project modeling to automatically create multiple request types and activities.
Scheduling Allows you to request an alteration to a product schedule, for example: IMS availability, job execution, terminal access, etc.
Ship Tape Allows you to request the addition of a new product or the deletion of an existing one. The result of this request may be a project or series of requests managed by Request Management.
Software Generation Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of addresses, controllers, nodes, and databases for the following software generations (in the default iWise installation):
  • Z/OS, Windows Server, UNIX Server
  • CICS, VPN
Space Allows you to request an addition, change, or deletion of space for an application or dataset. Automatic notification and verification of estimates to actual requests are performed either immediately or via a Request Management monitor agent.
